adapting the Annexes to Council Regulation (EC) No 2820/98 applying a multiannual scheme of generalised tariff preferences for the period 1 July 1999 to 31 December 2001

THE COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES,

Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Community,

Having regard to Council Regulation (EC) No 2820/98 of 21 December 1998 applying a multiannual scheme of generalised tariff preferences for the period 1 July 1999 to 31 December 2001(1), as amended by Regulation (EC) No 1763/1999(2), and in particular Articles 29(5) and 32 thereof,

Whereas:

(1) Article 29(5) of Regulation (EC) No 2820/98 lays down the procedure for enacting changes to Annexes I, II, VII and VIII there made necessary by amendments to the Combined Nomenclature. Commission Regulation (EC) No 2204/1999 of 12 October 1999 amending Annex I to Council Regulation (EEC) No 2658/87 on the tariff and statistical nomenclature and on the Common Customs Tariff(3) embodies new elements which affect the lists appearing in Annexes I, II, VII and VIII to Regulation (EC) No 2820/98. It is appropriate to adapt those Annexes I, II, VII and VIII accordingly, applicable from 1 January 2000.

(2) The measures provided for in this Regulation are in accordance with the opinion of the Generalised Preferences Committee,

HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION:

Article 1

Annexes I, II, VII and VIII to Regulation (EC) No 2820/98 shall be adapted as indicated in the Annex hereto.

Article 2

This Regulation shall enter into force on the 20th day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities. It shall apply from 1 January 2000.

This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.
